Turning Policy into Reality

This year’s event brought together 350 attendees representing a global community of policymakers, regulators, and industry leaders. This also included 50 young professionals enthusiastic about the evolving challenges of nuclear transport.

Representing the World Nuclear Transport Institute, CEO Prof. Pete Bryant took part in the opening plenary on the Global Landscape on the Safe and Secure Transport of Nuclear and Radioactive Material. He underscored the critical role of industry in turning policy into reality, stressing that effective frameworks depend on those who implement them.

Prof. Bryant highlighted WNTI’s unique role in bridging policy and practice—ensuring that regulatory ambitions are informed by operational experience, and that industry voices are actively engaged in shaping workable, resilient solutions.

Panels, Technical Sessions, and a Design Competition

The WNTI Secretariat, Prof. Pete Bryant and Elisa Penda, alongside WNTI members Greg Ramsdale and Nicolas Warin, were highly visible throughout the programme. Together, they contributed to panel discussions and technical sessions covering Denial of Shipments, Emergency Preparedness, Nuclear Security and Human Resources Development. These interventions reflected not only technical expertise, but also a strong commitment to advancing practical, implementable solutions across the transport sector.

WNTI’s engagement extended beyond the conference sessions themselves. In a strong demonstration of its commitment to the next generation, WNTI sponsored an Infographic Design Competition aimed at young professionals. The initiative encouraged fresh perspectives on transport challenges, with the winning participant awarded a funded trip to attend the conference, providing them a valuable opportunity to engage directly with global experts and stakeholders.

Reflecting on the Week

Prof. Bryant commented:

“This conference reinforces the importance of engaging industry at every stage. It is through collaboration between policymakers and practitioners that we ensure nuclear and radioactive materials are transported safely, securely and sustainably across international supply chains.”
