International Questionnaire: Re-purpose of Existing Packaging and New Nuclear Fuel Transport

The WNTI Re-purpose of Existing Packaging for New Mission Task Group is developing:

• An international good practice guide for the re-use and re-purposing of radioactive material transport packages; and
• A database of existing packages that may have potential for future re-use or re-purposing.

The aim of the database is to improve visibility of existing packaging assets, support sustainability and asset optimisation, and facilitate connections between organisations that may benefit from future re-use opportunities.

To minimise effort for contributors, the database will be developed using a two-stage approach:

• Stage 1 (this request) seeks a simple expression of interest and high-level information about packages that may be of interest to others for future re-use or re-purposing.
• Stage 2 will be undertaken only with interested organisations and will gather more detailed technical and operational information where appropriate.

In addition, the WNTI New Nuclear Fuel Transport Task Group is seeking to improve its understanding of transport packages currently under development for future nuclear fuel applications.
