Last week, WNTI CEO, Professor Peter Bryant, was honoured as this year’s G. William Morgan Lecturer and delivered the opening keynote at the Health Physics Society 71st Annual Meeting in National Harbor, Maryland.

His address, “Radiation Protection for a New Nuclear Era: Lessons from the UK and Insights for Global Deployment,” drew on nearly two decades’ experience in the UK nuclear sector, reflecting on lessons from the UK’s new‑build programme and the implications of emerging nuclear‑powered maritime and space technologies.
 
Peter highlighted key challenges for the profession: shifting towards outcome-focused regulation, strengthening public confidence through meaningful stakeholder engagement, addressing the growing nuclear skills gap, and ensuring the System of Radiological Protection supports innovation while maintaining the highest standards for people and the environment. The keynote prompted an engaged plenary discussion with delegates.
