WNTI Secretary General, Martin Porter and WNTI Regulatory and Design Specialist, Scott Edwards, attended Nuclear Europe from the 6 - 7 June 2022.

This year’s event entitled ‘Nuclear Journey to 2050’– hosted by Finnish Energy – was held in Helsinki, Finland and was a major success!

The focus of the conference was on the future of the nuclear sector as we move towards 2050. The event kicked off with an opening dinner the night prior to the conference itself with some interventions by high-level speakers.

This years conference marked the rebrand of FORATOM to Nuclear Europe! Martin Porter congratulated Nuclear Europe’s Director General, Yves Desbazeille, at the conference.

The whole WNTI team is looking forward the continued collaboration between our two organisations.

“We must become less dependent on external sources of energy. Clearly, nuclear technologies can play a big role in this regard. Nuclear can provide several solutions, including: (1) a stable, affordable and low-carbon source of electricity; (2) an assisting role in the production of low-carbon hydrogen in Europe; and (3) innovation, in particular with the development of Small Modular Reactors which can fulfil specific use cases. I call on all stakeholders to work together for our future. We must sit around a table and come up with practical solutions to fighting climate change and to improve Europe’s energy independence.”
Yves Desbazeille Director General
