On the 26th June in Manchester, United Kingdom, World Nuclear Transport Institute (WNTI) CEO Prof. Pete Bryant spoke at the Nuclear Industry Association’s (NIA) Fuel Event, drawing attention to a vital but often overlooked part of the sector - nuclear transport.

“Nuclear transport is the invisible backbone of the fuel cycle,” Pete stated. “To power the future, we must first understand how to keep nuclear moving – safely, securely, and sustainably.”

His talk explored how new reactor technologies such as SMRs, AMRs, and transportable nuclear power plants are reshaping transport requirements. He also outlined the growing challenges facing the sector – from complex regulations and fuel innovations to logistics pressures and evolving security threats.

Pete stressed that transport must be integrated from the very beginning of new nuclear to avoid costly delays and ensure readiness for a net zero future.
