NRC Renewal of UX-30 Certificate of Compliance to September 30, 2028

In September, the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) renewed the Certificate of Compliance No. 9196 for the UX-30 transportation package, Revision 31.

This follows the July 2023 application by TN Americans LL (TNA) for package renewal. In its renewal application, TNA noted that there were no changes to the safety analysis report for the package since the prior application for renewal.

TNA also requested that the package review include consideration of NUREG-1886, “Joint Canada–United States Guide for Approval of Type B(U) and Fissile Material Transportation Packages.”

While TNA requested an expiration date of December 31, 2029, the NRC’s renewal of the Certificate of Compliance goes to September 30, 2028. Revision 30 is set to expire on December 31, 2024. TNA also requested that CoC Revision No. 31 includes a condition to allow continued use of Revision 30 of the CoC until the expiration of CoC Revision No. 30 on December 31, 2024, to allow time for revalidation in other countries prior to expiration of the current Competent Authority Certificate.
