Fact Sheet – Quick Facts on the Transport in the Nuclear Fuel Cycle

Download File

With nuclear power accounting for approximately 14% of global electricity, it is imperative that radioactive materials are transported safely and efficiently to sustain this vital source of affordable, clean, and carbon-free energy. The fuel cycle is divided into two main operations: front end and back end.

This fact sheet provides an overview of both operations, while detailed information on the respective operations can be found in the WNTI Fact Sheet: Nuclear Fuel Cycle Transport – Front End Materials and WNTI Fact Sheet: Nuclear Fuel Cycle Transport – Back End Materials.

We extend our gratitude to the WNTI Working Group members for their invaluable contributions to this publication.
