WNTI Welcomes UK Prime Minister’s Nuclear Regulatory Taskforce Report

The independent Taskforce, commissioned by the Prime Minister, sets out 47 recommendations for government designed to streamline decision-making, improve coordination, and reduce unnecessary complexity — while maintaining and enhancing the highest standards of safety, security, and sustainability.

Key recommendations include:

• Establishing a “one-stop shop” for nuclear regulatory and planning decisions;
• Streamlining processes to remove duplication and improve proportionality;
• Aligning UK regulation with international standards and best practice;
• Ensuring that safety outcomes take precedence over bureaucratic processes.

The report recognises that a clearer, more efficient regulatory system will strengthen the UK’s global leadership in nuclear development, accelerate delivery of clean energy, and foster innovation across both civil and defence sectors.
