Canada and Japan Sign Strategic Roadmap

In March, Ms. Takaichi Sanae, Prime Minister of Japan, held a summit meeting with the Mr. Mark Carney, Prime Minister of Canada, during which they signed the Japan-Canada Joint Statement. They agreed to elevate Japan-Canada relations to a “Comprehensive Strategic Partnership”, in light of the expanding cooperative relationship between Japan and Canada across all fields, such as security, economy and energy.

Regarding energy, the two countries plan “enhance cooperation on clean energy technologies, including nuclear technologies, (particularly small modular reactors), hydrogen and its derivatives, carbon capture, utilization, and storage, renewables, and energy-efficient industrial processes”.
