U.S. DOE Announces Awards for HALEU Transport Packages

In December, the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) announced award to support the development and licensing of transportation packages for high-assay low-enriched uranium (HALEU) fuel. The awards, which total $11 million, come under DOE’s HALEU Availability Program, which was authorized by the Energy Act of 2020.

Awards for new package designs for HALEU fuel transport to NAC International, Inc. (NAC), Westinghouse Electric Company, Container Technologies Industries, American Centrifuge Operating (a Centrus Energy subsidiary), and Paragon D&E.

One award was made for modification of existing packages to NAC International.
