Dear WNTI Members,

To inform that a White Paper – TM on the Implications of the International Commission on radiation Units and Measurements report 95 has been issued.

The meeting, held from October 21–23, 2024.

Background:

The Technical Meeting aimed to discuss current knowledge and identify gaps regarding the impact of adopting the new operational quantities on radiation protection practices across various occupational fields.

Key Discussion Points:

    • Existing OQs, based on ICRU Reports 39 and 51, have inconsistencies that may lead to inaccurate dose estimations
    • The new approach aims to provide more accurate assessments across a wider range of radiation types and energies, including high-energy environments like aviation and space
    • The revised OQs require significant changes in dosimetry systems, calibration standards, and monitoring instruments
    • Implications for various stakeholders
    • Financial considerations

Next Steps:

  • A dedicated IAEA TECDOC is under development to document identified knowledge gaps and provide recommendations on how to proceed with the adoption of the new operational quantitie

The document has been uploaded on RASSC webpage for information: White paper on Technical Meeting (Nov 2024) on the Implications of the International Commission on Radiation Units and Measurements report 95
