This document presents Nigeria’s comments on document MSC 110/9, and provides an update to the Maritime Safety Committee on the Federal Republic of Nigeria’s ongoing efforts to combat piracy and armed robbery in the Gulf of Guinea. The sharp reduction of reported incidents since 2021 reflects the notable progress made; however, recent events demonstrate the threat has not been completely eradicated. This underscores the need for sustained international and regional partnerships, joint training, and shared operational frameworks. Nigeria’s efforts, including the Deep Blue Project, the enforcement of the SPOMO Act, collaborating through SHADE Gulf of Guinea, the NIMASA/Industry Joint Working Group, and the proposed Africa Union mandated Combined Maritime Task Force, demonstrate a multi-layered and collaborative approach to maritime security.
