The International Maritime Organization, Editorial and Technical Group meets to discuss amendments to the International Maritime Dangerous Goods Code (IMDG Code).

WNTI attend this meeting if any Member States or International Organisations submits a document of interest, such as one that refers to radioactive material.

Some important changes to the IMDG Code have been proposed.

E&T 35-5 ‘Proposed amendments emanating from IAEA’ contains proposals for amendments to the IMDG Code, to be included in the amendment 41-22, emanating from the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA).

Following requests by the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) and IMO, the Freight Container Working Group (FCWG) was created at IAEA under the TRANSSC Technical Expert Group – Operational Matters (TTEG-OM). The FCWG was tasked to provide regulatory interpretations, identify areas where regulatory clarification would be required and develop proposals for regulatory changes, where warranted, to address issues raised by ICAO and IMO with regard to the transport of freight containers used as packaging.
