Each day thousands of shipments of radioactive materials are transported around the world.
The 12th ISO/TC85/SC5/WG4 meeting was held on 24 September 2024 in hybrid. During the meeting, the attendees discussed standards related to the transport of radioactive materials. Key points include updates on existing standards such as ISO 7195, with amendments approved to include new cylinder types and valve designs. The revision process for ISO 12807 was also confirmed, addressing device requirements and consistency checks. A potential new standard on measuring radiation levels faced mixed opinions; the majority opposed it based on an American standard, preferring to explore the theme at the ISO level. Switzerland’s proposal for standardising Class 7 boxes was presented, with discussions planned to align it with existing regulations. A technical meeting is scheduled for late 2024, and WNTI members interested in contributing are encouraged to engage with their national delegations.
