As the leading international body focused exclusively on the transport of nuclear and radioactive materials, the World Nuclear Transport Institute (WNTI) plays a key role in shaping dialogue and action across industry, governments, and regulators. Our work directly supports the development and harmonisation of safe, secure, and efficient transport frameworks around the world. This conference will be our first flagship event for engaging with those who are setting the pace for the future of nuclear transport.

Held under the theme “Navigating the Future: Powered by Nuclear, Delivered by Transport”, this year’s conference will explore how the transport sector is adapting to meet the demands of a rapidly evolving nuclear landscape—supporting new technologies, enhancing regulatory frameworks, and addressing global challenges from sustainability and climate change to public perception and geopolitical shifts.

The conference will bring together senior voices from governments, industry, suppliers and international organisations for two days of insightful discussion, technical exchange, and strategic foresight.

Whether you’re a policymaker, practitioner, researcher, or supplier, this event is a unique opportunity to shape the conversation around the future of nuclear transport—and to connect with the people driving it forward.

Programme & Abstract Submission

Find out more

The conference will be made up of a combination of keynotes, panel sessions, invited speakers and abstracts. A high-level overview of the structure of the event can be found by clicking the ‘Find out more’ button followed by details on how to submit an abstract.

Abstracts submissions are open from 23rd June 2025 – 5th September 2025, and those speakers submitting must be able to attend the event in person. Those abstracts accepted will be confirmed by the 17th September 2025.

Please see below the list of Key Topics we are welcoming abstracts on:

Key Topics

New Technologies and Applications

We welcome abstracts from the following areas:

  • New Technologies e.g. Floating and Transportable Nuclear Reactors, Small and Advanced Modular Reactors, Fusion etc. Transport of Novel Fuels and Materials e.g. HALEU etc.
  • New Transport Packages
  • Nuclear Applications in Space
  • New Medical Technologies and Sources involving Radioactive Materials.

Future of Transport Standards & Regulation

We welcome abstracts highlighting industry views of the changes needed to international and domestic regulations and standards related to Nuclear Materials and Radioactive Material Transport. This may include:

  • Nuclear Safety, Security and Radiation Protection
  • Maritime and Aviation Requirements
  • Environmental Requirements
  • Jurisdictional and Legal Complexity
  • Transboundary Impact and Responsibility
  • Nuclear Liabilities
  • Package Design
  • Operational Practices
  • Regulatory considerations for new technologies.

Sustainability and Skills

We welcome abstracts from the following areas:

  • The Carbon Footprint of Transport Routes / Modes
  • Packaging Waste & Circular Economy
  • Resource Use and Infrastructure Constraints (e.g. use of materials in shielding, aging transport infrastructure, limited container reuse)
  • Safety-Security and Sustainability Trade-offs (e.g. added environmental cost of safety and security standards and measures).
  • Climate Resilience and Long-Term Viability of Transport Routes.
  • Workforce and Skills Requirements Now and in the Future.
  • Recruitment and Retention in the Nuclear Sector

Making it Happen

We welcome abstracts focused on tackling the key challenges to the future of Nuclear and Radioactive Materials Transport. This may include:

  • Tackling Public Perception and Social License (including delay and denial of shipments)
  • Integration of Emerging Technologies and Fuel Types.
  • Modern, sustainable, and secure transport infrastructure.
  • Diversify supply and transport routes.
  • Develop contingency protocols for geopolitical disruptions.
  • Strengthen diplomatic frameworks and agreements.
  • Preparing for the unexpected (including robust emergency preparedness and climate adaptation plans).
  • Tracking, verification, and anti counterfeit technologies.
